Early on in my adventures I did some silos back in the Bay Area. When I moved to NYC I quickly learned of silos over on the east coast that were similar in age and style to the Bay Area’s that I had visited earlier. I finally got inside, though it was a bit anti-climatic. Getting to the roof proved to be too difficult – the first story staircases were in an advanced state of decay, and getting to the second story seemed out of reach for this trip. Not impossible, but wayyy to difficult for the causal explore this was. I was slightly shocked that there wasn’t much in terms of graffiti. There was definitely some, but considering how dense NYC is, and how crushed the Bay Area’s silos were, I was shocked that these were mostly empty gray cement. While we were there a security guard did do his rounds, so maybe it’s really hot. Either way, I’m glad I got to get inside these. Perhaps some day when I’m more daring I’ll get up the stair cases to the roof. December 7, 2015 at 7:20 am | Urban Ex |
