DJ Shadow has been a favorite local musician of mine since I first heard his work many years ago. He's from San Francisco, and proud of it. He once scored a film called Dary Days, which told the story of various homeless who lived in an abandoned sub-way system. Via Wikipedia:

He is a prominent figure in the development of instrumental hip hop and first gained notice with the release of his highly acclaimed debut album"Endtroducing.....".
